Early morning collision leaves five dead

A small motor vehicle and a SUV collided near bridge 16 on the N2

Five people, including a 12-year-old child died during a head on collision just past Mandeni in the early hours of this morning.

A small motor vehicle and a SUV collided near bridge 16 on the N2.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst, three people in the SUV as well as the driver and child in the small motor vehicle were declared dead on scene.

The only surviving person was a female passenger in the small motor vehicle who was found entrapped and in critical condition.

“IPSS Medical Rescue’s advanced life support paramedic initiated advanced life support intervention while Rural Metro were using Jaws of Life to free her from the wreckage.”

The patient was taken to Stanger Hospital.

Herbst reported that the woman went into cardiac arrest upon arrival at hospital.

“Resuscitation was started by paramedics and doctors. The woman regained a normal heart rhythm within minutes. She remains in a critical condition.”
