WATCH: Car swallowed by Tongaat River
Do not attempt to cross rivers or low level bridges that are under water after last night's heavy rain.
Trying to cross a swollen river is a tricky affair at the best of times, after a night of rain like the Dolphin Coast experienced last night, it verges on suicidal
This was the lesson learnt this morning by a man who tried to cross a low level bridge over the Tongaat River, only to find himself in deep water – literally.
“The man in the car was lucky to escape with his life,” said IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst.
IPSS Medical Rescue and Bigshow towing are at the river and will be assisting with the recovery of the vehicle.
