Second pupil hit by train in two weeks on the Dolphin Coast
The young girl is in hospital and will undergo surgery today
A 13-year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by a train at Groutville Railway Station on Monday.
According to a witness, Aneliswa Alick was running too close to the railway line when she was knocked down by the train.
Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue confirmed that the grade 9 pupil suffered severe head trauma and will undergo surgery at Netcare Alberlito Hospital today (Tuesday).
Just last week another pupil from Nkosibomvu Secondary lost her life after being hit by a train at the Compensation Railway Station.
The school principal Sfiso Cebekhulu said he believes that PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) should conduct more safety awareness talks at schools.
“We have about 300 children using the train every day, but the last safety awareness talk at our school was conducted five years ago,” said Cebekhulu.
