Durban Street Store to give dignity to the homeless
Grace Family Church is calling for donations of like-new clothing, shoes, and accessories for all ages, as well as non-battery operated toys for kids
Make your way to the Denis Hurley Centre in Durban next month for the fourth annual Street Store.
The aim is to give the homeless dignity and significance, through authentic interaction and care, in a unique shopping experience.
It will take place on Friday June 16 (public holiday) from 8.30am till noon at 2 Cathedral Road in the Durban CBD and brings with it much excitement, for the homeless shoppers and the eager volunteers.
Hosted by Grace Family Church, this is singly the biggest one-day-missions activity that the church community undertakes, with over 120 volunteers involved at the – not to mention the dozens of volunteers sorting, mending and packing the garments in the lead up.
As before the focus is on clothing and personal shopper assistant experience.
The volunteers will be washing and trimming hair and improving the kids section.
Some of the enhancements will be a cooked meal, served to each person, in a dining hall setting with live music and prayer.
This will provide an area, for people to spend some time rather than be rushed through and to converse or pray with a volunteer, should they want to.
Donations

Your collections can be dropped off at the Grace Umhlanga, Riverside or Ballito church campuses.
There will be a huge shipping container, sponsored by Container World, based at Grace Umhlanga and the target is to fill it to the brim with donated clothing.
Key sponsor JAM Clothing will also have drop-off boxes at select stores around Durban, namely Hillcrest, Amanzimtoti, Crescent and Smith Street.
The Durban Street Store is an event that brings people together, and extends hope and generosity to those in need.
