Tongaat house fire claims two
The victims' bodies were so badly burnt it was impossible to identify them
Two elderly people were killed by a fire that broke out in a home in Tongaat last night.
IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst told The Courier that the fire broke out after 6pm in a low cost housing unit in Jiyane Road which four elderly people were living.
“Two people managed to escape the flames by jumping out of a window, one of whom cut his arm and was treated for lacerations.”
Herbst said that the identity of the two who died in the blaze was uncertain at this time due to the state of the bodies.
“It is not yet clear what caused the fire in the first place,” said Herbst.
The blaze was put out by the fire department.
