A head start to the world of work
The annual Cell C take a girl child to work day was held last Thursday
Twenty school girls got a taste of the working world when they visited Sembcorp Siza Water for the annual Cell C take a girl child to work day last Thursday.
Sembcorp Siza Water has been a part of the annual corporate social investment initiative that is held across South Africa since 2009.
Grade 11 and grade 12 pupils from Guzana and Shakaskraal Secondary Schools received a warm welcome and a scrumptious breakfast spread before trading their school shoes for career shoes.
Split into smaller groups, the girls visited the different departments within the organisation, gaining valuable experience of what careers in accounts, marketing and communications, customer services, project management and engineering entail.
The girls particularly enjoyed visiting the big boss’ office where managing director, Shyam Misra received the young budding professionals with his endearing sense of humour.
At the Frasers water treatment plant, the girls were guided on a tour from start to finish, experiencing first-hand how the process of purifying water works and where the water in their taps comes from.
The tour ended with a visit to the brand new Hugh Dent pump station in Salt Rock, followed by lunch back at the Siza Water head office where the girls stepped back into their school shoes with newly gained insights into what careers they might consider pursuing post matric.
Sembcorb Siza Water managing director Shyam Misra said the company was delighted to have taken part in the initiative for young women.
“We encourage all of the girls to apply for the Sembcorp Siza Water bursary once thay have completed matric.”
