Drags ruin revamped Zen Park
Residents are disappointed and furious that the park has been wrecked.
Hardly a week after Zen Park had been revamped, reckless drivers used the area for what looks like drag racing – leaving behind tyre tracks and uprooting the freshly cut grass.
Ballito Neighbourhood Watch (BNW) chairperson Candice Henderson said residents were disappointed and furious that the park had been wrecked.
She said this had happened on a few occasions and that a vehicle had started damaging the park last Monday and returned last Saturday to finish the job.
“They were obviously doing doughnuts on the grounds as there are patches of circles left on the grass. We do not feel that this was deliberate but rather opportunistic.
“It is probably young people who want to show off their cars. We also assume that it is being done late at night.”
Henderson said BNW will be speaking to residents to come up with a plan to ensure this does not happen again.
They are in the process of discussing with KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) if a designated parking area can be built.
“If anyone sees that behaviour in future in public parks all you need to do is to take a photo of the vehicles registration number and report it to KDM.
“They will then fine the driver for damage to public property.”
