ANC Women’s League protests against child rape – Shaka’s Head
ANCWL members and residents of Shaka's Head protested outside Umhlali SAPS, opposing the bail application for two men who appeared at Umhlali Court for the rape of two minors in separate incidents.
A Sunday school teacher from Shaka’s Head has been accused of sleeping with a 13-year-old girl, allegedly for the past three months.
Residents protested outside the Umhlali court when the man appeared last week.
“He did not deny that he slept with the girl, he said she is his girlfriend.
“We are here to oppose bail because how can a 51-year-old man sleep with a 13-year-old girl?” asked one resident.
The Courier was told that the mother had discovered the alleged rape after the girl took R50 from the man.
“When the man went to the mother to report the theft the child told her mother about the relationship. He was arrested in October last year,” said Shaka’s Head ANCWL leader Bonisile Majola.

More than a hundred residents, led by the African National Congress’ Women’s League, marched on the R102 from Shaka’s Head to the court to oppose bail.

Another Shaka’s Head resident appeared at the Umhlali Court on Thursday, facing a case of a sexual assault. It is alleged that he sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl.
According to the mother of the child, her child used to visit the man, which she allowed because the man was known for his kindness to the neighbourhood children.
“He always gave children sweets and his yard was always full of children. He used to play with them a lot.
“It had never crossed my mind that he might do such a thing to my child,” said the mother.
The Sunday school teacher’s case was remanded for further investigation and bail application for the man facing sexual assault was postponed.
