Off the streets and into the surf – KwaDukuza

Local businesses sponsored surfboards for underprivileged children from Driefontein, Shaka's Head and Groutville.

Local youth were encouraged to keep off the streets and get into the water after they were handed surfboards last week.

Democratic Alliance (DA) ward 22 councillor Tommy du Toit facilitated a recent project by getting businesses to sponsor surfboards for underprivileged children from Driefontein, Shaka’s Head and Groutville.

“Ballito resident Shawn Thomsons encouraged Hurricane Surf Boards of Durban to donate four boards to children learning how to surf at Salt Rock beach, valued at R10 000.

“It is an initiative that will not only help these children to learn how to swim but also teach them valuable life skills and discipline that comes with taking surfing lessons which are given for free by KwaDukuza lifeguards,”said Du Toit.
