For the love of the Salt Rock Library

The old, dilapidated and unhygienic kitchen was recently revamped.

What was once a shoddy kitchen has been turned into a fresh, clean space thanks to an energetic lady who jumped into action.

Ballito resident Gail Stefano said she noticed in what a bad state the kitchen at the Salt Rock Library was while on tea duty recently.

“I belong to the Craft Club that meets at the library twice a month. I actually felt quite ill while I was preparing tea and saw how rusted the kitchen sink was and that the cupboards were all falling to pieces,” said Stefano.

“I took to Facebook and asked for help to fix up the kitchen. I could not believe how quickly people offered their assistance and in no time we had donations coming in and could start with the remodeling.”

The cupboards were broken and falling apart.

Cupboard Value Ballito’s Johann de Klerk came on board to provide cupboards, Dolphin Coast Granite’s Dawie Viljoen provided new countertops and Pipework Plumbing’s Michelle McDowell had a look at the old pipes.

“I come to the library with my children quite often and wanted to get involved and support the library we love,” said McDowell.

Even the municipality came on board with the donation of a fridge.

The kitchen was old, dilapidated and unhygienic before the revamp.

Now that the kitchen job is complete, Stefano already has the next project in mind.

“The room people use for meetings and gatherings is in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint. We also need to put blinds on the windows as ladies come here in the evening for yoga classes and it does not feel safe to have the open, dark windows. People in Ballito are so marvelous and any help to complete this project will be so appreciated.”

To get involved, contact Stefano at 083 484 0531.
