The grass is greener in Ballito thanks to the UIP

They have been cleaning, repairing, improving and planting for the last three years all in the name of making Ballito beautiful and safe.
The Ballito Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) is going into its fourth year now and precinct manager Thierry Leclezio said the last three years have been “tremendously satisfying”.
“Witnessing the change in the overall appearance of the Ballito precinct has been fantastic. Although it has not been without its frustrations, the reward makes it worthwhile. All has been made possible by the collective effort of commercial property owners and KwaDukuza municipality,” said Leclezio.
He said each project they have rolled out and completed over the past three years has enhanced the overall objective of the UIP.
“Our goal is to create safe, clean and well-managed public spaces that reflect the high quality of the growing Ballito offering.”
A range of maintenance projects along the Ballito boardwalk and beachfront have been done including the resurfacing of slippery areas, the replacement of broken wooden planks, stair repairs, relaying and repairing brick work and fixing of benches.
In November 2015, the Safe and Secure Services programme boosted the security aspect along the Ballito boardwalk, which was then extended to the business park in October 2017.

“Currently, the UIP provides 24/7 security in the form of two vehicles and guards on foot to the beach area, upper Ballito and the Business Park. Additional security services are deployed over peak seasons like the festive season and during the Ballito Pro, ensuring the UIP can manage the influx of visitors to the area at these times,” said Leclezio.

Coming up, he said the Ballito UIP will ensure safety remains a priority and issues like bylaw infringements are dealt with as efficiently as possible.
“Our main focus for 2019, however, will be landscaping projects with an emphasis on a co-ordinated theme for the area and high visibility gardens at key points. We have some interesting signature landscape projects planned for the near future, so watch this space!”
