Photojournalists tell stories through pictures.
It’s an interesting career where there’s never a dull moment.
But, to be successful in this fast-paced world, photojournalists must be knowledgeable about the tools of the trade, be willing to work long hours in unusual conditions and meet tight deadlines.
This is what 35 aspiring writers and amateur photographers took away when they attended the free photojournalism workshop at All Souls Anglican Church on Saturday morning.

The workshop was facilitated by local author Dianne Stewart, a freelance journalist and creative writing facilitator who has published numerous articles and more than 40 books.
Dianne covered feature writing for print media and also addressed the ins and outs on how to break into the tough world of freelance writing.
Newspaper stalwart and industry professional Bruce Stephenson (editor of The North Coast Courier from 1985 to 2018) shared unique insights and his wealth and tips for writing for a newspaper.
Go-to industry expert on all things media, former journalist and editor Heidi Gibson covered the world of social media and why developing an effective digital strategy is essential for long-term survival.
Grade 11 and 12 students from Inanda Seminary also attended the morning workshop with the school’s executive director, Judy Tate.
“The students were so inspired by the morning workshop they have decided to launch their own social media campaign on mentoring,” said Tate.
