Bags full of love for Stanger Hospital maternity nurses, new moms

In the spirit of motherhood, a group of moms surprised newbies to the role and maternity nurses at Stanger Hospital with bags full of love recently.

The kind gesture is part of the Mother’s Day Connect initiative which was started by Embrace – The Movement for Mothers, a Cape Town-based national movement which connects, supports and celebrated motherhood.

Kathy Degouviea-Smith supervised the Dolphin Coast’s involvement and said she felt inspired to join this movement for mothers to celebrate their birth of motherhood, and to offer support, encouragement and connection.

“Often the journey to motherhood comes with an array of emotions – ideally positive emotions, however many women enter motherhood feeling anxious, unprepared, alone and afraid,” said the mother of twins.

“In KwaDukuza, a group of 11 women from all over the North Coast celebrated with 100 new mothers and 25 nursing staff, most of whom are also mothers, and presented them with care hampers.”

The gift bags were all lovingly decorated by the pupils of Trinityhouse Palm Lakes whose principal, Darren, is Kathy’s husband.

The concept of visiting a maternity unit or birth facility to connect with the new moms and celebrate the nursing staff is not limited to Mother’s Day only.
