Baby rescued from pit latrine at Doringkop high school
The mother and baby were taken to hospital.
Shortly after being brought into the world, a newborn baby was rescued from a pit toilet at a high school in Doringkop this morning.
With the child’s umbilical cord still attached, firefighters managed to pull the baby out of the pit and wrap it safely in a blanket.

According to KwaDukuza media liaison officer, Sipho Mkhize, the KwaDukuza Fire Department was called to the school to assist with the rescue mission.
“We can confirm that a baby was rescued and both the mother, who is a pupil, and the baby were taken to hospital for medical attention.
“They are both in a stable condition,” said Mkhize.
This is a developing story, more details will follow.
