50 years of love and marriage for Salt Rock high school sweethearts
The couple agreed that the glue that held their marriage together has been their unconditional love for each other and constant communication.
They were high school sweethearts and still share that special spark after 50 years of marriage.
Salt Rock’s Jack and Anne Bolton met in 1963 when they were teenagers and a mutual school friend introduced them.
“There was a definite attraction between us and we started going out. We courted for five years before getting engaged in 1968,” said Anne, a retired teacher.
A year later, the two lovebirds tied the knot on June 28, 1969 at the Durban Central Methodist Church and started their married life in Westville.
Jack did an electrical apprenticeship and worked for a number of companies before opening his own manufacturing business making wrought iron furniture. He then branched out into manufacturing and installing glass products.

“My husband is a sport fanatic! He played rugby in his younger days, did the Comrades and the Dusi, triathlons and now loves his cycling and surfing. My hobbies are crocheting, reading, painting and sewing.”
One of their greatest joys in life are their three children – Kerry, 47, Kim, 45 and Brett, 43 and seven grandchildren. While Kerry lives in Johannesburg with her husband and children, Kim lives in St Marcet in the south of France with her family. Luckily Brett stayed closed by and lives in Salt Rock with his son, which was the draw card that brought Jack and Anne to the Dolphin Coast last year.
“The biggest highlights in our marriage was when our daughter Kerry was cleared of cancer and when Jack recovered from a major heart attack,” said Anne.
The couple agreed that the glue that held their marriage together has been their unconditional love for each other and constant communication.
“Our shared love, strong support for one another has seen us through tough times. When things get difficult, do not throw in the towel, rather unite and work together to try and right the wrong. Communication is paramount in a marriage and that is the advice we would give to newlyweds. Talk to one another!”
