Glitz and glamour at the Dolphin Striders awards
With a solid 32-year-history Dolphin Striders has upheld its original core values of providing a community venue for runners and walkers of all levels.
Glitz and glamour dominated the evening at the Dolphin Striders running club annual awards and presentations function hosted at Zimbali Country Club recently.
The evening saw the club acknowledge the achievements and significant milestones of club members who celebrated a number of outstanding results.
Founded in 1987, Striders was the first road-running club on the North Coast, catering for runners from Ballito, Tongaat and Stanger.
The first time trial in Compensation Beach Road attracted 40 runners, many of whom signed up there and then to form the club and with the assistance of the then Dolphin Coast council the club found its home in Dolphin Crescent.
The club’s annual half marathon was a very popular event on the provincial racing calendar for its scenic route and superior organisation, and was awarded ‘Best Organised Half-Marathon in KZN’ trophy on no fewer than five occasions.
The club also hosted the popular Indian Ocean Marathon for several years in conjunction with Ballito Rotary and Glenwood Harriers. This has been succeeded by the Deloittes Marathon, held annually from Ballito to Durban.
