Cupcakes make for a sweet way to save a life

Ruvania was diagnosed with lymphoma leukemia in August of 2018 and her father is now the sole breadwinner of the family and works as a mechanic.

Bringing joy to five-year-old lymphoma leukemia patient Ruvania Redhi, Cupcakes of Hope have not only come to her and her family’s aid in the last few months but last week Thursday, in conjunction with Netcare Alberlito, held a fundraiser to aid other children and families like hers.

It’s one of every parent’s worst nightmares – the fear of your child getting sick to the point where you cannot help them.

But thanks to the support of Cupcakes for Hope, Ruvania is getting a lot of the support she and her family desperately needs.

According to mom, Sandy Redhi, the journey so far has not been an easy one and, she has since had to resign from her job as a sales agent in order to look after her daughter.

Leukemia and lymphoma are both forms of blood cancer.

The main difference is that leukemia affects the blood and bone marrow, while lymphomas tend to affect the lymph nodes.

The Tongaat family have with the help of the Cupcakes for Hope non-profit organisation, received help both financially and emotionally.

At the fundraiser last week, cupcakes were sold for as little as R5 and founder of Cupcakes for Hope, Sandy Cipriano said that the event was a huge success.
