Starting tomorrow (November 15) and running for five days, Professor Ashwin Desai will be followed by filmmakers Bruce and Tarryn Buttery to showcase Durban’s finest and most authentic curries and bunnies for CNN Inside Africa.
Inspired by the book ‘Durban Curry Up2Date’ by Salt Rock resident Erica Platter and Clinton Friedman, Desai will begin in Durban and travel north, stopping at the infamous Cindy’s in Umhlali, moving onto Sasol Salt Rock’s Praveena Thulkanum and finally stopping at Shamen Reddi of Impulse by the Sea in Tinley Manor.

Author Erica Platter is proud to be involved in such a dynamic food environment and says that even the simplest of ingredients such as potatoes or beans can turn into a magnificent curry.
“Every Durban curry has a story, no matter what it is,” said Erica.
“The story of the people behind each curry is something special, and I am convinced that a homemade curry from Durban will beat any international curry into the shade.”
