No electricity irks Salt Rock residents after rain damages transformers

At the moment, it is known that two transformers at the Sheffield sub-station have been damaged but it is not known how how long the electricity supply will remain off.

A large number of Salt Rock residents have been stuck without electricity from around 8.30pm last night (Sunday) meaning that not only did they miss the 8 o’clock M-Net movie and family bonding experience, but that everyone also woke up to a freezing cold shower this morning.

Locals are asking questions demanding to know when electricity will be restored but, according to Salt Rock ward councillor Privi Makhan, it’s not as simple as flicking the switch.

At the moment, it is known that two transformers at the Sheffield sub-station have been damaged but it is not known how long the electricity supply will remain off.

Councillor Makhan says that they have approached the electricity engineering business unit at the KwaDukuza Municipality, which is in the process of procuring a specialist technician.

“No further information or time frames are available as yet,” said councillor Makhan.

An update will be available once the technician is on site at the Sheffield sub-station.
