Serial rape trial starts for man who allegedly preyed on unemployed women in KwaDukuza, promising jobs to lure them in

Alleged serial rapist Frans Mahuman’s trial started in the Durban Court on Monday last week where he plead guilty to having illegally entered the country.
Mahuman faces several charges including that of rape, kidnapping, robbery and attempted rape.
The 32-year-old illegal alien is a Mozambican national who was initially suspected of having raped a total of 10 women however, he was only later successfully linked to a total of six rapes.
In one of the cases, Mahuman approached a Shaka’s Head woman on Townsend Road, Ballito in August 2016 and promised he could get her a job.

“He told her that he would go with her to meet the ‘so-called employer’ in Ballito and, convincing her of a shortcut, allegedly raped her in a bushy pathway,” said Umhlali SAPS spokesman, Vinny Pillay.
While police were looking for him, residents of Maphumulo found him first and severely assaulted him.
He was later arrested at the taxi rank in KwaDukuza and linked to six counts of rape at Ntshawini, Etete, Tinley Manor and Umhlali and possibly four further cases in Gauteng.
Mahuman’s modus operandi would see him approach women and say that he could help them find a job as a domestic worker – all they had to do was follow him to his employer.
