A Mediterranean affair
Replacing Mythos, which closed in June, this new Mediterranean taverna with a strong Greek influence on Eat Street will hopefully have more staying power than its predecessor.
The soft launch of Attikos, Ballito’s latest restaurant offering, saw the who’s who of the North Coast enjoying Greek-style tapas and cocktails late into the night last Friday.
Attikos is a Greek word meaning “rugged coast”, which certainly suits our beautiful Ballito.

Replacing Mythos, which closed in June, this new Mediterranean taverna with a strong Greek influence on Eat Street will hopefully have more staying power than its predecessor.

And so far the signs are good. Guests gobbled up the mezze platters of grilled calamari and squid heads, meat skewers, chicken livers and more, finished off with a divine baklava.

According to managing partners Christos and Tracy Konahos, Ballito locals for the last eight years, Christos has fond memories of fishing holidays with his paternal grandfather in the beautiful crescent bay of Karystos on the rugged coastline of a small Greek island, Evia, where his father was born.
“We would take home our catch to cook with family, neighbours and friends. A simple family dinner would often turn into an all-night affair,” said Christos.

Inspired by this way of life and the pleasures of eating together, they created Attikos.
“Greek food is made to share,” said Tracy, “it is all about celebrating life and enjoying yourself in the moment.”
