Eskom takes loadshedding to stage 4 from 2pm
Eskom has also blamed the recent incessant rains for resulting in coal-handling issues at a number of its plants.
Stage 4 loadshedding will start at 2pm today and last until 6am on Saturday morning.
With the higher demand of 1000MW, and now coupled with a total of 13 000MW of generating capacity having been lost, struggling power utility Eskom appears hard pressed to keep the power grid stable.
Eskom says that through implementation of stage 4 loadshedding, it will be able to prevent unplanned further blackouts.
Eskom said it needs to replenish water reserves for pumped storage schemes.

Currently, Eskom continues to use diesel and water resources at its open gas turbines and pumped storage schemes – this is to supplement capacity.

“If the wet weather persists, we are likely to implement loadshedding throughout the weekend.”
Stage 4 loadshedding times (Friday):
Ballito Southern Grid: 6pm – 8.30pm.
Stanger: 6pm – 8.30pm.
Mandeni: 8pm to 10.30pm.
Stage 4 loadshedding times (Saturday):
Tongaat: 00.00am – 2am.
Mandeni: 4am – 6.30am.
