Pancakes and novelties at Umhlali Methodist Church market

The church grounds were busy with excited children playing on a jumping castle and running back and forth to the three dedicated 'pancake flippers' who filled the air with the scent of fresh cinnamon.

The Umhlali Methodist Church was abuzz with people laughing and the smell of freshly cooked pancakes last Saturday morning, as the church community hosted a market day in the sunshine.

The event was a fundraiser to complete a building extension which is used, among other things, to train teachers as part of the educational project Khanyisa – equipping pre-school teachers with valuable classroom tools and showing them how to plant and cultivate vegetable gardens.

Event organiser Bronwyn Parsons said the building was also available to be used by the public for meetings, and was happy to see people interested in helping the church.

“The building is available for the community to use, but we use it primarily for project Khanyisa,” said Parsons.
