Stage 2 loadshedding to continue through Sunday

Eskom said that as of 7pm on Saturday, unplanned breakdowns totaled 11,600MW.

Eskom will continue with stage 2 loadshedding which is expected to last until 11pm on Sunday.

Stanger (KwaDukuza Northern Grid) (Tinley Manor to Zinkwazi) will be off from 10am to 12.30pm.

Ballito (KwaDukuza Southern Grid) (Tinley Manor to Zimbali) will be off twice from 10am to 12.30pm and 6pm to 8.30pm.

The national power utility has in the meantime urged customers to use electricity sparingly.

“As we are experiencing rainy and cooler weather conditions in some parts of the country, we ask that you use efficient heating to keep warm and switch off your geysers over peak periods.”

“The loadshedding is required overnight and all day to cater for further trips and to create capacity to replenish water reserves for our pumped storage schemes,” said Eskom.

“Sufficient water and diesel reserves are necessary to limit the level of loadshedding in the coming week.”

Eskom said that as of 7pm on Saturday, unplanned breakdowns totaled 11,600MW, meaning that it was continuing to use water resources at its pumped storage systems to supplement capacity.

However, Eskom had not used any of its open cycle gas turbines on Saturday in order to conserve emergency reserves.

Schedules can be found on Eskom’s site loadshedding.eskom.co.za or through the customer contact centre ar 086 003 7566.
