Eat all you can at the Litchi Festival

The Litchi Festival's Heidie Smith is looking forward to the event with excitement.

The 14th annual Litchi Festival is being held in Salt Rock again this year from mid-December all the way until the litchis run out at the end of the month.

Located just past the Flag Animal Farm and not to be confused with ‘The Litchi Orchard’ – the festival will be open daily between 9am and 3pm for the public to enjoy, while December 24 will see doors closing early at 12 noon and the farm will remain closed on Christmas day.

Plump, ripe litchis are begging to be picked at the Litchi Festival.

VIP picking evenings are offered that includes a two-course meal and drinks at R500 per person.

Walk-in visitors can enjoy a tractor ride every 15 or 20 minutes where you can eat as many litchis as you can while taking home a 1.6 kilogram bucket of litchis for you to enjoy – both included in a fee of R150 per person.

The Litchi Festival’s Heidie Smith is looking forward to the event with excitement.

The litchi festival is situated just past the Flag Animal Farm in Salt Rock.

“The litchis are looking large and plump this year so it is going to be exceptionally tasty,” said Smith.

People can stay up to date with the festival by following the Facebook page ‘Litchi Festival’ or on Instagram: @litchifestival, alternatively people can contact 071 438 4290 for more information.

To book a VIP picking evening, email litchifestival@gmail.com.

Litchis are sweet and ready to eat right off the tree.

To get to the festival, take The Salt Rock off-ramp (exit 214), turn right towards Salt Rock past Tiffany’s Shopping Centre and the first road left towards Sheffield Beach, keep left on the dirt road and the festival is just past the Flag Animal Farm on the right-hand side.
