Beaches where braaing is allowed on the North Coast
Yet every year hundreds of visitors arrive at the beach armed with firelighters and cooler boxes of braai meat.
If you want to have a braai at the beach, ensure that you have it at one of the four beaches where it is allowed, or face a minimum fine of R500.
Almost every beach in KwaDukuza is fitted with signage clearly stating that open fires, drinking of alcohol and camping are strictly prohibited.
Yet every year hundreds of visitors arrive at the beach armed with firelighters and cooler boxes of braai meat.
KwaDukuza lifeguard superintendent Bongani Xulu said that if visitors bring their braai stands, it was their responsibility to ensure the coals were safely disposed of.
Beaches with braai stands to be used by the public include Tinley Manor, Blythedale, Zinkwazi main beach and Zinkwazi’s Black Rock beach.
He said KwaDukuza crime prevention will be at the beaches to ensure that people are not breaking the law.
“We urge residents to be very cautious and familiarise themselves with the municipal bylaws because crime prevention will be enforcing these laws,” said Xulu.
