Ilembe District’s top five matriculants for 2019

KZN Mec for Education, Kwazi Mshengu said they had finally reached the 80 percent pass rate mark for the province.

The Ilembe District received a special shoutout from KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala yesterday (Wednesday) for the most improved pass rate for 2019, ranking sixth out of the province’s 12 districts.

Ilembe District’s pass rate increased from 71.1 percent in 2018 to 80.9 percent.

Matriculants from across the province were recognised for their hard work at an awards function organised by the KZN Department of Education and hosted at the Durban ICC.

Nokukhanya Mcanyana of Qinisani High School accepts her award. Nokukhanya is the second top performing matriculant in the Ilembe District.

KZN Education Mec Kwazi Mshengu said he was proud they had finally reached the 80 percent pass rate mark for the province and commended the some 6000 schools across the province.

He said he was happy that KZN has been counted among the most improved provinces in terms of pass rates across the country.

Shivaadon Poonan from Shakaskraal Secondary is the third top performing matriculant in the Ilembe District.The Ugu District retained first position with the highest recorded pass rate for the province, coming in at 86.3 percent.

“There will be no educated nation without our teachers,” said Zikalala, extending thanks to the teachers for their efforts in ensuring that pupils performed well.

Himal Sing from Stanger Manor Secondary is the fourth top performing matriculant in the Ilembe District.

Meanwhile, coming in at number one as the best performing matriculant in the Ilembe District was Grouteville High School matriculant, Lindokuhle Mvelasi.

Minenhle Majola from Vukile High School accepts her award. Minenhle is the fifth top performing matriculant in the Ilembe District.

Mvelasi was followed by Nokukhanya Mcanyana of Qinisani High School, Shivaadon Poonan from Shakaskraal Secondary, Himal Sing from Stanger Manor Secondary and Minenhle Majola from Vukile High School.
