Top IEB results for North Coast private schools

12,595 students across South Africa were assessed to pass matric, scoring a total pass rate of 98.82 percent - a drop of 0.1 percent compared to 2018.

North Coast private schools celebrated outstanding achievements when the Independent Examination Board (IEB) results were released on Tuesday.

The three schools whose students wrote the IEB examinations are Ashton International College, Crawford College North Coast and Curro Mt Richmore.

Ashton College boasted a 100 percent pass rate that made for an epic 10th birthday gift to the school. Senior college head Jenny van Buuren was exceptionally proud of her students for their efforts and hard work to achieve their results.

“As head of the senior college I am incredibly proud of the class of 2019 who showed grit and determination and the pass rate is a reflection of the excellence we strive for,” said Van Buuren.

Crawford North Coast principal Vernon David beamed proudly about the success of their 71 matriculants and a pass rate of 100 percent, with a total of 152 distinctions between them.

“I am exceptionally proud of my students, and a lot of thanks goes to both the teachers and parents for their sacrifices as well,” said David.

Ashton matriculants jump with joy knowing that they have successfully completed their final year of high school.

Of the different IEB subjects graded, Mandarin scored a high national average of 90.09 percent against subjects such as mathematical literacy (74.76 percent) and English (69.21 percent).

While some of the top achievers in the country celebrate their success and qualify for selection at their desired tertiary education institutions, David reminded students that academic success was not the fulcrum upon which personal success rests.

“Each child is different, with strengths, weaknesses and gifts that can only be truly marveled by helping children discover who they are, and maintain attributes like confidence and responsibility as they progress forward,” he said.

Curro Mount Richmore was equally delighted to see a 100 percent pass rate for their 23 ‘future leaders’ according to the school, with two of their students receiving seven distinctions between them.

The national senior certificate results are being released on Wednesday, January 8.

A total of 12,595 students across South Africa were assessed to pass matric, scoring a total pass rate of 98.82 percent – a drop of 0.1 percent compared to 2018.
