iLembe’s top matric studies six days a week, late into the night

Lindokuhle bagged distinctions in physics, mathematics, life sciences, agricultural sciences, Zulu and English.

Top iLembe matriculant Lindokuhle Mvelase, with six distinctions, said he owed his success to a lack of sleep, supportive parents and teachers and, being prepared to study six days a week.

“There was no spare time,” the Groutville High pupil and Dube Village resident said, while urging future matriculants to put aside their social lives and rather focus on their studies.

Lindokuhle achieved distinctions in physics, mathematics, life sciences, agricultural sciences, Zulu and English.

As for sleep, Lindokuhle said it was not much of a priority saying he would study until midnight and be ready to start again from scratch come the next day at 5am.

A hard worker who knows what he wants, Lindokuhle said he intends to study mechanical engineering at Stellenbosch University.

“I owe thanks to my family and teachers who were really supportive.

“My mother broke down with tears of joy.”

Mvelase was followed by second in the district Nokukhanya Mcanyana of Qinisani High School, third Shivaadon Poonan from Shakaskraal Secondary, fourth Himal Sing from Stanger Manor Secondary and fifth Minenhle Majola from Vukile High School.

Ilembe’s pass rate increased from 71.1 percent in 2018 to 80.9 percent in 2019.
