Beach cleaner shares about the bare necessities of life

His positive attitude is mirrored by the spotless beach which he roams, stuffing garbage into rubbish bags while enjoying the music on his cellphone.

Cleaning the beach by collecting litter is not as bad as it sounds, according to eThekwini metro employee Khaelihle Nxumalo.

Walking along the dunes of Westbrook beach in the early hours of the morning, Nxumalo said he enjoys his job and the support he gets from the municipality.

“I get paid fairly and I am treated with respect,” said Nxumalo, who loves working in such a beautiful part of the world.

His positive attitude is mirrored by the spotless beach which he roams, stuffing garbage into rubbish bags while enjoying the music on his cellphone.

One is reminded of the simple pleasures of life as Nxumalo trudges on merrily.

“The municipality gives us the equipment we need and although we would obviously like more money, it is enough for my bus fare and to live,” said Nxumalo, who takes pride in his work ensuring the public enjoy a clean and tidy public beach.

Anyone would benefit from taking a leaf out of his book.
