Salt Rock residents say that traffic is worse than before

While traffic jams have been a blight in the fast developing Salt Rock region, the blame has been levelled at the traffic light timers that appear to be out of synchronisation, preventing vehicles from flowing freely.

Despite attempts to alleviate traffic congestion at the Tiffany’s intersection with the installation of traffic lights, traffic congestion appears to be at its maximum since the lights were switched on.

With the start of the new school term frustrated commuters took to social media to complain about the virtual gridlock that was experienced during peak-hour periods forcing long stretches of waiting time at the traffic intersections.

Stuck at the newly installed traffic lights that never seemed to change to green, last week saw many motorists sitting in queues of cars that stretched for kilometers.

While traffic jams have been a blight in the fast developing Salt Rock region, the blame has been levelled at the traffic light timers that appear to be out of synchronisation, preventing vehicles from flowing freely.

Ward 22 councillor Privi Makhan told the Courier the municipal traffic engineers and Sanral were monitoring the situation with Siemens, who is responsible for programming the lights.

“They have requested our patience as a community until the road markings, detectors and timing have been finalised. KwaDukuza municipality is fully aware of the issue and in the interim have allocated traffic pointsmen to ease the traffic flow during peak times. Residents are asked to assist the authorities by leaving adequate times for their travel,” said Makhan.
