M4 collapse possible if repairs aren’t made soon
DoT consulting engineer, Vusimuzi Dlamini, confirmed that remedial work on the M4 freeway at the site of the crumbling road will start this week.

Concerns about the M4 between Westbrook and the Tongaat bridge being at risk of collapse if something isn’t done soon are growing.
Ward 58 councillor Geoff Pullan has urged for the Department of Transport (DoT) to fix the problem before it fails in the same way.
DoT consulting engineer, Vusimuzi Dlamini, confirmed that remedial work on the M4 freeway at the site of the crumbling road will start this week.
“We are sourcing labour, both men and women, from the nearby informal settlements as the contractor is eager to begin the work,” said Pullan, who is also using the opportunity to tackle other safety issues along the M4 in his ward.
“The Tongaat bridge guard rails have been in serious disrepair for almost ten years.”
Engineers are confident the M4 will be open for the Tour D’Urban cycle marathon on April 25.
