Jeep Gladiator spotted in SA

If the Gladiator does hit our shores it would only be a matter of time before it would be seen towing boats from our beaches.

As if we don’t have enough brutal trucks in South Africa, it looks like we might be getting a new edition from Jeep, with an even more brutal name – the Gladiator.

While Fiat Chrysler Automobiles South Africa has not yet confirmed the arrival of the monster to the South African market, the double-cab was spotted in the Western Cape in camouflage livery, undergoing testing in left-hand-drive guise wearing a Gauteng-registered temporary licence plate.

The truck was revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2018 and expands the Jeep range to cater for the need to carry a payload of up to 725 kilograms while towing up to 3.4 tons.

Powered by the familiar 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 coupled with a six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic, the design of the Gladiator also seems to be designed to tackle some of the roughest terrain available with an impressive approach angle of 43.6 degrees and ground clearance of 282 millimetres.

A 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 is set to join the current American lineup exclusively with an eight-speed auto as well.

If the Gladiator does hit our shores it would only be a matter of time before it would be seen towing boats from our beaches.
