Luxury on three wheels

A customised and imported American Honda Goldwing 1800cc is the steed for 47-year-old Paul Setsetse, who spends his afternoons relaxing at Umdloti Beach when he comes down from Johannesburg.
The unique bike, which has many luxuries such as a GPS system and surround sound as well as air suspension, carries Paul in eye-catching style while he road trips around the country.
“As a cruiser there is very little the bike does not have, and even has a 47-litre dual fuel tank for long journeys,” says the youthful biker.
The Goldwing has two rear wheels to help Setsetse manage to haul its 400 kilogram wet weight around.
With a set of running lights like an American truck on each side, the bike itself carries itself with a presence unlike anything on the road.
As one of four of its kind in South Africa, Paul does not risk taking the bike out too often and also rides a 1999 Honda Goldwing 1500. It is hard to imagine the bike getting any bigger but Setsetse even has a towbar on the back to pull a trailer.
“I love the fact that the bike has a level of safety comparable to a car but still gives me the fun of riding a bike.”
