Covid-19 home screening – here’s what you need to know
As of today, the total number of infected South Africans stands at 1,353 with a total of 5 deaths.
The government is preparing rolling out home-screening teams throughout the country to check for Covid-19 – but beware of criminals posing as inspectors.
According to the Department of Health, 10 000 workers will be deployed to villages, towns and cities to go door-to-door.
While details about the rollout plan are still unclear, the public are warned to be on the lookout for groups of people travelling from house to house, posing as healthcare workers to test for the virus, as a method of gaining entry into homes.

Legitimate government officials may be identified as follows:
- Field testers will have ID badges and wear the same shirts.
- Field testers will carry ID documents. A Saps police officer will be present.
- Tests can be conducted outside your home, no tester will request to enter your home.
The Department of Health has stated that anyone presenting no or moderate symptoms will continue isolation at home, however those with severe symptoms will be transferred to a hospital.
A tracing system will be put into place to track anyone that has come into contact with patients that have contracted Covid-19.
The South African Covid-19 hotline number is 08000 2999 for anyone requiring assistance.
