Cops continue random roadblocks to combat overloading and flouting lockdown
Most motorists were found to be well-informed and following the regulations.
Roving roadblocks continue as Saps cracks down on lockdown offenders.
Police and other government departments held a large roadblock at Shakaskraal last Wednesday.
Motorists were flagged down in an effort to educate the public at large over regulations and safety measures around Covid-19.

At 9am, numerous departments made up of the local Saps, Health Department, Public Order Policing and traffic police set about waving people down and checking that capacity regulations were being adhered to by taxi operators and other road users.
According to Captain Vinny Pillay of the Umhlali Saps, about 90 percent of motorists were found to be well-informed and following the regulations.
“Some private drivers and people took their chances, saying that they were going to the shops,” said Captain Pillay.
“There were people arrested for overloading and people walking around aimlessly were charged according to the Covid-19 disaster management act. But we are getting there.

“We will continue with handing out pamphlets and educating people about Covid-19.”
He said they were continuing to patrol the townships.
“Suburbs like Salt Rock and Ballito are not bad but some of the townships are, but we will continue warning people of the dangers.”
