Tiffany’s SuperSpar closes after employee tests positive for coronavirus

"The health and safety of customers, the community and all staff remain the highest priority at Tiffany's SuperSpar," said owner Charles Wilson.

Tiffany’s SuperSpar at Salt Rock has temporarily closed its doors after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus.

The supermarket closed the same day as the smaller Ballito Village Spar by the sea.

Management confirmed in a statement on Tuesday evening that the store will be closed for decontamination and sanitisation in line with Health department regulations.

“The health and safety of customers, the community and all staff remain the highest priority at Tiffany’s SuperSpar.

“Our store, along with all Spar stores, has been unfailingly diligent in implementing measures to limit the risk of Covid-19 transmission during the lockdown period,” said owner Charles Wilson.

According to Wilson the store has followed rigorous preventative health and safety protocols that the group have implemented, including daily checks, social distancing, the use of masks, deep cleansing, sanitiser and perspex sheet protection at tills.

“As a precautionary measure we are testing all staff members who were in contact with the Covid-19 patient.

“Spar’s culture of community and caring continues to drive our response to the Covid-19 crisis.

“We take our role as essential service providers seriously and will continue to go the extra mile to keep our staff and customers safe,” said Wilson.

The store will only reopen once the health department gives the okay to do so.
