Ballito gives to lockdown driveway collection

Organised by Ballito Neighbourhood Watch (BNW) and the Ward 6 Community Police Forum (CPF) committee, Ballito residents rallied to support the initiative.

Ballito residents opened their hearts and came together on the weekend to collect food donations for the poor.

Organised by Ballito Neighbourhood Watch (BNW) and the Ward 6 Community Police Forum (CPF) committee, Ballito residents rallied to support the initiative.

“The lockdown has intensified the need for food in the community on a large scale, the reason being that so many people do odd jobs like home maintenance, or recycling like collecting scraps to feed their families, which is their only daily or weekly income. Due to the lockdown, there is no income,” said BNW committee member Morne Steffens.

Working through their street cluster groups BNW and CPF were able to reach out to Ballito residents who generously donated non-perishable food items to be made up into food parcels.

In line with social distancing regulations the residents left their donations on the edge of their driveways on Saturday and committee members delivered them to Umhlali SAPS to distribute to the needy.

“The committee members of the BNW/ CPF were granted special permission to do this for this worthy cause,” said Steffens.

Steffens said they were overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.
