Ballito Spar reopens for business today
Staff members who were in contact with the patient remain in self-isolation for the required 14-day period before returning work.
Ballito Spar at Balvista Centre in the Ballito Village employees have received the all clear after test results of all 34 workers for Covid-19 came back negative.
This follows the closure of the store last week after a staff member tested positive for the virus.
Store management worked closely with the Health Department to ensure the correct self-isolation and testing protocols were followed.
The store’s employees were tested and a comprehensive sanitisation was done by a specialist.
According to management the sanitisation included deep cleaning of the entire store including the bakery, kitchen and the freezers and fridges.
All products on the aisles and fresh produce were also sanitised.
The chemical used is a SABS approved specialised alcohol-based surface detergent and is 100 percent food-safe.
Staff members who were in contact with the patient remain in self-isolation for the required 14-day period before returning work.
According to owner of Ballito Spar, Paul Rencken the staff member has been asymptomatic and not experiencing any ill-effects from the coronavirus.
“The virus was not spread to any other staff members. This is testament to our strict in-store hygiene measures and protocol.
“We would like to thank the Ballito community for its loyal support and understanding during this difficult period,” said Rencken.
The store reopened for business today.
