Public amenities remain closed in level 4 lockdown

Exercise is only allowed between 6-9am every morning and you may only exercise within a 5km radius of your home.

Walkers and runners took to the streets of Ballito with great enthusiasm this morning, as May 1 marked the first day of level 4 lockdown across South Africa.

While runners, walkers and cyclists may as of today exercise outdoors, they may still not use the much loved promenade along Ballito’s beachfront, according to the latest regulations published in terms of the Disaster Management Act.

Pubic amenities remain off limits, meaning beaches, promenades, parks, public and tidal pools and reserves are closed during level 4 of the lockdown.

While these areas may be off limits, roads are not – so long as road rules are adhered to.

Exercise is only allowed between 6 and 9am every morning and you may only exercise within a 5km radius of your home.

Other facilities which remain either closed or off limits include gyms, sports grounds and fields.

Social distancing measures need to still be followed and no exercise clubs are allowed to operate.

You are also required to wear a face mask while exercising outdoors – this can be any face mask so as long both your mouth and nose are covered.

Walkers and runners took to the streets of Ballito with gusto this morning.
