WATCH: Seatides resident recounts daring rescue at Tongaat river bridge

His rescue training kicked in instinctively as he raced down the beach and jumped into the river to rescue the person trapped inside the vehicle.

In nothing short of a miracle, Zimbali resident Sue Marsden is alive today because voluntary emergency rescue medic and former North Coast Courier journalist, Thrivin Naidoo pulled over at the Tongaat river bridge on Friday, May 15 to photograph the sunrise.

It was shortly after 6am when Naidoo spotted a vehicle upside down in the river.

His rescue training kicked in instinctively as he raced down to the beach and jumped into the river to rescue the person trapped inside the vehicle, which had gone over the bridge through a gap in the railing.

Speaking to The North Coast Courier later that afternoon, this is what Seatides resident, Naidoo had to share.
