North Coast residents query unusually high electricity bills

Dolphin Coast Residents and Ratepayers Association (Docrra) chairman Deon Viljoen said there had been a number of complaints of higher than usual electricity bills in April.

The use of temporary workers as meter readers may have caused the huge electricity bills being received by KwaDukuza residents.

Dolphin Coast Residents and Ratepayers Association (Docrra) chairman Deon Viljoen said there had been a number of complaints of higher than usual electricity bills in April.

According to their findings, temporary workers were used by the municipality to do the readings and there had been large discrepancies on both actual readings and estimates.

Viljoen said they have had more than 20 residents complain about major increases in their electricity readings, resulting in overcharges of thousands of rands.

“We urge you to reach out to the municipality if this has affected you as well,” he said.

KwaDukuza municipal spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize said residents could contact the municipality’s finance division to query their bills. Contact Nishara Singh at nisharas@kwadukuza.gov.za or visit the Ballito municipal offices.
