Hilary Park skate bowl revamp ramps up

Builders holidays are looming and having the bowl ready in December would be an excellent addition for the holidaying community and locals alike.

The skate bowl revamp and extension at Hilary Park is well underway but the project still needs a final injection of funds.

Although it might appear weeks off completion with a collapsed streetlight across the length of the bowl, and wet concrete at various different sections, the bowl is very much in its final stages.

Kim Peacock of RE/MAX Dolphin, who have championed the #SparkUpTheParks project, asked the community to help them complete the skate bowl before the holidays.

“We are now into the final stages and last big push to complete this project is needed so our wonderful community can take full advantage of this amenity during the December holidays,” said Peacock.

Dallas Oberholzer, of Imbizo Youth Camp is overseeing the upgrade and talked of what a good quality skating location can mean for the community.

“There are bowls closing all over the place, kids need a place to go and have fun and exercise in safety,” he said.

The extension of the bowl could take the bowl to a professional standard and Oberholzer was confident it could become one of the top skating locations in the country.

“I am thinking of moving to Ballito when this thing is finished, its such a cool location and community,” he said.

Simon Peacock extended their gratitude to all the individuals and businesses that had contributed so far.

“Members of our town having been incredibly involved and generous with the outpouring of support with both building supplies and financial donations alike, but further assistance is still necessary,” he said.

Donations are still open on the project’s backabuddy page at backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/spark-up-the-park.

Direct donations can also be made to the RE/MAX Foundation which is a registered non-profit.
