Heavy rains haven’t hampered Sheffield road repair, says ward councillor

The latest repair, which began in February at a tune of R1.7 million, is expected to take 5 months to complete.

After 7 years of repeated problems, the poor drainage system along Sheffield Drive is being drastically repaired to prevent future road collapses.

The road has been repaired many times before without much success.

The repair to the latest sinkhole was washed away a week later.

The latest repair, which began in February at a tune of R1.7 million, is expected to take 5 months to complete.

Sheffield Drive between Salt Rock and Sheffield is closed.

The construction company tasked with the repair is Stanger-based Njomco Enterprises.

A drainage system capable of handling the flow of water during heavy rain storms is being constructed beneath where the roadway will be built.

The road has been dug up entirely in order to install a drainage system capable of handling the high flow of water during heavy rains.

Councillor Privi Makhan noted the concerns of locals, but said recent heavy rains had not hampered the repair crew.

“Both the contractor and the consultants have been effectively ensuring that I am appraised on the various phases of the project,” she said.

NOTE: This article has been corrected from the print version in which it was inaccurately reported that the company tasked with the repair was Njomco Foods.
