Day 7: Rioting and looting continues to hamper roads
As of 9am there were no reports of obstructions locally on the R102 or M4.
UPDATE:
Umvoti toll and the R102 in the vicinity have seen ‘protest’ action resume – the area has been declared unsafe.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A number of roads have reopened this morning, while others remain closed following the latest riot action and looting.
The N3 toll route has reopened for travel between Harrismith and Heidelberg.
The road between Cedara and Harrismith however remains closed to all traffic.
The N2 between Empangeni and Ballito is also open.

The N2 at Queen Nandi drive remains a no-go-zone.
Isithebe industrial estate at Mandeni has also been reported as clear.
This follows the deployment of the army in the area yesterday, however this only includes roads in the vicinity of the industrial estate.
Reports indicate that the N2 toll at Tongaat is open, as well as the Umvoti toll.
According to Courier reporters at Tongaat shortly before 9am today, roads appeared safe to travel in the area and the situation was somewhat calm.
Ballito Neighbourhood Watch member and Dolphin Coast Residents and Ratepayers Association vice-chair, Flip Helberg confirmed that as of 9am this morning they had received no reports of obstructions locally on the R102 or M4.
He did warn that the situation could change very quickly, and advised all motorists to travel only if necessary.
