Shakas’s Head women create Safe Space for rape and abuse victims
Shaka's Head resident Busisiwe Makhathini of Sakhisizwe Warriors Foundation, said they felt there were many abused men and women who did not know where to go for help.
A group of Shaka’s Head women have taken the initiative of securing a container which they intend to convert into a trauma centre for rape and abuse victims.
Shaka’s Head resident Busisiwe Makhathini of Sakhisizwe Warriors Foundation, said they felt there were many abused men and women who did not know where to go for help.
“There are those who even go and open cases but end up dropping them, for their reasons, but what about the trauma and anger? How do they deal with that?”
They have named the container ‘Safe Space’.

“We want to get all the relevant departments to come and work with us,” said Makhathini.
Although it is a huge task and responsibility, they are prepared to take it on, with the aim of helping their fellow residents.
“There is lots of crime here and we just want to bring the necessary help closer for the residents.”
Last year the foundation helped a 70-year-old Shaka’s Head grandmother, Dani Vilakazi, by building her a new home. She had been living in an unstable shack for many years.
