How to get your digital Covid-19 vaccine certificate

Site visitors should note a slight delay when waiting for their digital vaccination certificate to download, and avoid exiting the platform.

Fully vaccinated citizens as of last Friday now have access to a digital vaccine certificate (aka passport).

Following international trends President Cyril Ramaphosa said the certificates would streamline proof of vaccination and help get international travel restrictions eased.

Vaccine passports have already been introduced in other parts of the world.

The European Union’s Digital Covid Certificate (EUDCC) is available to all 27 members of the EU and the United States and China have their own versions.

Certificates downloadable from a government platform contain a QR code or barcode which is scannable by a number of devices, including cell phones.

While the code is not meant for the general public’s use, it will be used by specific entities to verify if the holder is vaccinated.

A test of the desktop-website showed an error, while mobile-testing of the site worked effectively.

Site visitors should note a slight delay when waiting for their digital vaccination certificate to download, and avoid exiting the platform.

To download a digital copy of your Covid-19 vaccine certificate go to: vaccine.certificate.health.gov.za.

You will need:

– Your South African ID number, a passport number or an asylum/refugee number.
– The cell phone number included in your registration.
– Your SMS vaccination code received after vaccination.

The design of the vaccination certificate may be enhanced periodically to ensure it remains up-to-date with local and international standards.
