Kasi Taste brings to Zulu tradition to a table near you

The African traditional restaurant in the Sangweni Tourism Centre, with different food and an outdoor massage parlour, offers a uniquly Ballito experience.

After being hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, The Kasi Taste in Ballito is back with a bang, offering a variety of Zulu traditional food.

Run by Jacob Mthembu – known as Chef La Phumza – from Hambanathi in Tongaat, Kasi now has something different on the menu – massages by the Ubuhle Bendalo Boutique Spa sisters, Priscilla Chamane and Zanele Green-Thompson.

The Kasi Taste team: Priscilla Chamane,Nqobani Thusi, Nogugu Ntanzi, Sifiso Chamane, Chef La Phumza and Zanele Green Thompson.

“After I was forced to close due to Covid, I thought it was important to come back with something exclusive for our customers. Ubuhle Bendalo ladies were just what I was looking for because they were full of passion and dedication to give people something different,” said Mthembu.

Meals range from steam bread and ox head, to fried chicken feet and mielie meal bread pudding, and are open from 8 am to 5 pm.

They are also open on public holidays from 8am to 3pm.

Besides the excellent food, they also offer traditional bead jewellery.

“We took this as a challenge to combine traditional food with spa and we are quite excited about the journey we are about to take. Zulu traditional food is something that most people in urban areas does not get regularly and it is about time we as Zulu’s take that as an opportunity,” said Chamane.
