Eskom jumps loadshedding to stage 4 until Friday

Ongoing generating capacity shortages has seen Eskom move from stage 2 to stage 4 loadshedding from 1pm today.

Loadshedding will continue under stage 4 until Friday morning at 5am, before downgrading to stage 2 until Saturday morning at 5am.

Eskom said the escalation from was necessary to ration remaining emergency reserves which have been used extensively this morning.

“We are not getting the reduction in demand as expected from the implementation of stage 2,” the state-owned utility said.

“It was anticipated that an additional 7 units would have returned to service today, but this has not materialised and a generating unit has tripped at the Arnot Power Station this morning.”

More than 20 000MW is out.
