Transformer failure plunges 7 KwaDukuka wards into darkness
Eskom hopes to restore power within the next hour.
At least 7 KwaDukuza wards have been without power since early yesterday evening.
The failure of transformers at Shakaskraal Sub Station plunged wards 12, 20, 28, part of 6, 22, 4 and 30 into darkness.
More inland wards may also have been affected.
Ward 22 councillor Privi Makan, who had just returned from a site visit, reported that Eskom was in the process of switching the power back on.
“Eskom hopes to restore power within the next hour,” she said.
“The Eskom team were replacing 2 transformers which reportedly failed due to age and a 3rd as a precaution.”
